The Shakespeare Workshop
Introduction
The
Shakespeare Workshop was founded in 1989 by Tony Butler who has run more
than 160 day/weekend theatre-visit workshops. These
workshop are about exploring a play in a group of not more than 15 people,
and then going to a production of that play.
The
pattern of the day is to read speeches and scenes from the play, discuss
themes and images, have lunch together, and share our thoughts before
setting out for the theatre. Knowledgeable Shakespeare
enthusiasts join those new to Shakespeare [or this particular play] in the
endless discovery offered by the text.
No previous experience necessary.
In
addition to these theatre days/weekends, Tony has made three visits to
Eastern Europe
; two major residential events at Ruskin College Oxford [Hamlet 1993.
Macbeth 1994]; two residential holiday weeks [The Tempest,
Crete
1997. Midsummer Night’s Dream, France 2008]; and five visits to
the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
